Tolig was a little boy we found eating alone one morning at the Kind Samaritan children’s home in Mariupol. We soon discovered a bit of information about this little guy. He had some living family that assumed custody, thus preventing him from being able to live in the children’s home. Whoever the members of his family were, Tolig was not cared for enough. This lack of care caused him to basically become a street kid, living and trying to survive on the rough streets of Ukraine.
Somehow, our workers came across this little boy, obviously malnourished. He was told to come to the orphanage every morning for a simple healthy meal.
This picture was taken at one of his earliest visits, eating one of those meals.
This may be the only picture of Tolig.
Soon after this photo was taken, Tolig’s frail little body was found dead in a shallow fountain in the town square. It appears that Tolig was drowned and left.
Did anyone care?
Does anyone care?
Yes, God cares.
Every child, street kid and orphan matters.
They matter to people and they matter to God.
Many of these children grow up feeling like "throw away kids." They don’t see themselves as worth much.
But this is not true. They are valued, maybe not by all people, but by some, and most importantly, by God.
Orphans Matter is a ministry formed to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of youth like Tolig.
We provide them with basic life tools needed to help them transition into a healthy and purposeful life.
These tools include basic life needs such as housing, food, education opportunities, learned social skills, and learning to live safely in a dangerous world.
Because of a lack of family, many of these young people also feel hopeless and abandoned. Through Orphans Matter, they learn how valued, special and loved they really are, both by people and by God.
You can make a difference in the lives of hurting children and young people.
You may not be able to help them all, but you can help some.
How You Can Help
- You can pray.
- You can care.
- And you can give.
Your support helps to keep these children fed and cared for. Who knows how many lives you can impact.
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Prov.19:17
No child should be left alone. No young person should feel hopeless, abandoned or afraid. Each one is valued, special and loved by God.
